Congrats, fellow teacher! I could write a book — and so many would be appalled— about how I didn’t follow the “rules” invented for us because those in charge would be twiddling their thumbs unless they were making useless noise. I was a “career-switcher”, who came to teaching from the private sector. I had no idea what a so-called “lesson plan” was until my administrator “reviewed” me and asked me about my planning process.
“Fascinating lesson, Brooke! Where do you do your planning?”
“Um, in the car, usually during my morning commute.”
Learned quite quickly that wasn’t the proper response, and jumped through the hoops for subsequent dog-and-pony shows—and only then!
I loved teaching, but despised the bureaucracy. Yes, I believe the Peter Principle got its start in the education administration ranks.🤪
